Edinburgh ‘blade’ attack suspect charged with permanently disfiguring man and assaulting another

A man has appeared in court charged with permanently disfiguring another man during an alleged blade attack in Edinburgh.

Bradley Mccallum is accused of carrying out the assault to severe injury, impairment and disfigurement on a 31-year-old in Bingham Medway on July 21.

The 31-year-old victim was hospitalised after the incident last week.

The 29-year-old is also charged with assaulting a second man, aged 57, to his injury during the incident which resulted in him being treated by paramedics at the scene.

Armed officers had been sent to the property in the afternoon.

The scene was blocked off police cars to allow forensic officers to scour the area.

Mccallum is also facing a charge of being in possession of an offensive weapon as well as three charges relating to drugs.

He made no plea during the private hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in court within the next eight days.

Police Scotland confirmed his arrest on Wednesday and said enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

A force spokesperson said: "A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault incident which happened on Bingham Medway in Edinburgh at around 3.55pm on Wednesday, 21 July, 2021.

"The man was due to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 27 July, 2021.

"Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and officers are following a positive line of enquiry."
