Edinburgh bin lorry collides with city centre hotel just minutes from Royal Mile

An Edinburgh bin lorry has smashed into a car and hotel this morning.

A dramatic image shows the aftermath of the collision with occurred when the refuse truck rolled backwards on Blackfriars Street at around 7.45am on Saturday (August 21).

The Scottish Sun reports how the bin lorry crashed into a parked vehicle before colliding with the wall of the A&O Hostel.

Luckily police confirmed to the paper that no one was injured by the incident and that no person was in the bin lorry or vehicle at the time.

The collision occurred just minutes from the city's Royal Mile which is currently packed out with tourists for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

It is understood that the refuse truck was not being operated by Edinburgh City Council.

An image taken at the scene shows police and a recovery vehicle dealing with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to Blackfriars Street around 7.45am on Saturday, 21 August, following a report that an unattended refuse lorry collided with a parked car then a property.

"No one has been injured and enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.”
