Edinburgh bar warns customers after resident ignores quarantine to go golfing

An Edinburgh bar has told customers who were at Silverknowes Golf Club on Saturday not to visit after a local reportedly flouted quarantine period to play a round.

The Norhet Bar in Davidson's Mains asked customers to avoid their pub if they had been at the golf course on Saturday (22 August).

They claimed a person had flouted their mandatory quarantine period and visited the club, forcing it to close.

A spokesperson for the club said: “We had a member of the club enter the clubhouse yesterday and walked through the clubhouse.

"We found out this morning that this member had returned from Spain recently and should have been isolating for the 14 days.

“Due to this we took the decision to close the clubhouse as we felt we had a duty of care to our members and staff to close, sanitise the clubhouse and to remain closed for 72 hours (Reopen Thursday)

“We would like to make it clear that this individual is not and has not shown any symptoms and we decided ourselves to close & sanitise the clubhouse.”

Scots have been told they must quarantine if they or someone they live with has one of the three symptoms of coronavirus, or if they are asked to do so by a contact tracer.

People must also self-isolate for 14 days if they return from a country not included on the government's save travel list.

Nicola Sturgeon has repeatedly stressed the importance of following the rules, and anyone not obeying them could face fines.
