Edinburgh bar to hold fundraiser in aid of refugees living in Europe

A bar in Edinburgh is to hold a fundraiser in aid of a charity that supports refugees living in Europe.

Finnegans Wake, an Irish bar located on Victoria Street, have vowed to hand all proceeds from the event, on 30 March, to Re-Act (Refugee Action Scotland).

Re-Act are a group made up of volunteers from Scotland who operate a not for-profit international humanitarian aid project that works to bring vital supplies and support displaced refugees across Europe.

The night will see a performance from Ray, one of the pub’s regular music acts and the director of Re-Act, who will let spectators shave his hair mid-gig  - all in the name of a good cause.

Revellers will be able to vote on what hairstyle to give him with a small donation to the charity, before Ray is subjected to the winning style in front of his audience.

Dillon Plahé, Manager of Finnegans Wake, says: "Ray has been growing his hair for about a year now, especially to do something like this.

"All I’m saying is there is a fair amount of crazy options for our customers to come up with and we have a pretty creative bunch who come in here!

"Ray has been singing with us for a long time, but this is the first time we’ve worked with him to raise money for the great work that his charity does.

"It’s a cause I think we could all learn a lot more about and one that can often be side-lined. I’m really happy that we can support Ray and Re-Act in whatever way we can!"
