Edinburgh bar infuriates residents after putting up beer tent in communal garden

An Edinburgh bar has been blasted for erecting a pop-up beer tent in a communal garden at the back of a Capital tenement without informing residents.

Boteco do Brazil, on Lothian Street, advertise their gazebo as an outdoor ‘speakeasy’ but the secretive nature of the drinking den also extended to those living in the block behind the latin-themed pub and restaurant.

Fuming locals woke up to find their garden enclosed inside a white tent, with picnic tables covering beds of plants as the bar bid to expand its capacity amid the latest easing of lockdown restrictions.

However they were further infuriated by a manager’s claim the area was going to be designated as a place for “quiet study”.

Residents pointed out the space is not public and is categorised as a “private shared garden”.

But bar staff have reacted by deleting comments criticising the move from their Facebook page, leaving those living in the block furious.

Images show the makeshift beer garden, complete with a Red Bull branded rusted barrel, just yards from the front door of a tenement at the rear of the bar.

Edinburgh Live attempted to contact Boteco do Brazil for comment, but received no response.
