Edinburgh bar hit back at vile graffiti by changing name to 'Gayz Onley'

An Edinburgh bar has hit back at the bigoted graffiti sprayed on their walls, by changing the name of their pub to it.

In a hilarious response, the Dreadnought pub in Leith have chosen to celebrate Pride month by renaming themselves 'Gayz Onley', after it was spray painted onto their building.

In a mocking twist, the pub have got their own back on the vandals by even changing the sign above the door to the new name, which will be in place for the next week.

Images of the "pop-up Pride bar" were posted by staff on social media on Tuesday, showcasing the new signage as well as some huge Pride flags in the window.

Choosing to take the high road, they said: "So here we are - for one week only - Gayz Onley, (currently) North Fort St's only pop-up Pride bar!

"We'll be celebrating diversity, having a laugh and raising money for The Equality Network, with the help of some fantastic breweries, DJ Jez and Yer Uncle Harry (more on those later in the week)."

One regular posted: "And I thought you lot couldn’t get any better, you smash it out the park again!"

While another quipped: "Onley genuiz."

The team also went on to explain that though the name "may suggest exclusivity", they are as inclusive as they've always been and. that everyone was welcome (provided they follow the pub's hilarious dress code), reports the Record.

They added: "Our policy has always been the same: be whoever you are, you're welcome here (assuming you're not a twat). Oh, and wear decent slacks, of course."

It is not the first time the Leith watering hole has gone viral for their sense of humour, after a post banning 'jobby-catchers' quickly saw thousands of shares and reactions.
