Edinburgh bar creates cocktail in honour of Martin Compston after his drink mix up

Rose Street Gardens have created a new drink in memory of Martin Compston's eventful birthday bash at the venue earlier this month.

Edinburgh Live previously reported how an Edinburgh bar worker claimed that Martin Compston hilariously responded: "I'm fae Greenock," after fans tried to send him cocktails while he was out at the capital beer garden.

According to the bar worker, a group of fans wanted to impress the star and so they googled his favourite drink, where they came to the conclusion that it was a cosmopolitan.

But after sending over the drinks to the star, he allegedly responded: "How would that be my drink I’m fae Greenock I canny even spell cosmopolitan."

Now Rose Street Garden has unveiled a bright green drink with the Scottish Line of Duty actor's face on it after the gaffe.

Sharing pictures of the beverage on social media, the pub said: “After the hilarious event when a customer tried to send @mrmartincompston a cosmopolitan for his birthday at RSG and he was quoted as saying “How would that be my drink I’m fae Greenock I canny even spell cosmopolitan” ... we’re delighted to announce our newest cocktail the COMPSTON-POLITAN."

Sharing the story about the star on Twitter, local Chloe claimed: "Martin Compston was in my work the day and these girls googled his fave drink to send to him n google said it was a cosmopolitan and he was like 'how would that be my drink i’m fae Greenock I canny even spell cosmopolitan'."

The worker then snapped a picture with the actor who plays DS Steve Arnott calling him an "absolute gem of a guy."

She added: "I'd like to point out that he was still very grateful for them n was just having a laugh and bought drinks for multiple different tables n was taking photos with folk all night n is genuinely a lovely guy n was lovely to all the staff anaw."

But it's unlikely that if Martin were to return to the bar that he would drink the cocktail, as it is understood that the star and his entourage "were on the rums and vodka martinis" all night.
