Edinburgh bar closes immediately and warns drinkers they may be contacted by NHS

A pub in Edinburgh has closed its doors immediately after a staff member came into close contact with a positive coronavirus case.

Craft beer pub The Hanging Bat on Lothian Road has warned customers that have visited the site in the last few days that they may be contacted by Test and Protect.

The venue will now undergo a deep clean and the bar has said that staff will all be getting tested ASAP, stating that the welfare of their customers and staff 'comes first'.

A statement from The Hanging Bat read: "We have been informed today that a staff member has come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID -19.

"We have taken the decision to close to allow time for deep cleaning and to give time for staff to get tested and isolate should they need to.

"All affected bookings will be cancelled and contacted in the next 24 hours and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused, however the welfare of our staff and customers comes first.

For any customer who has been in the venue in the last few days, test & protect will be in contact using your track & trace data to advise whether you should get a test or isolate.

"We’d like to thank all our customer for their patience and understanding."
