A concerned resident has spotted a swarm of armed Police Scotland officers outside of the Assembly Roxy in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre.
The images, that were captured around 3.00pm on Sunday afternoon, appear to show at least four officers in full combat gear and armed with guns.
Several police vehicles were also spotted alongside the officers outside the venue that is situated at 2 Roxburgh Place, Edinburgh.
Police Scotland were contacted for comment but a spokesperson said that there was “nothing to report” and that officers “were just carrying out a general enquiry.”
In the pictures, non-uniformed civilians appear to be standing behind the officers, insinuating that there must not have been any immediate danger in the area.
The resident who captured the images, and who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the entourage was there for a short period of time before driving off.
The worried resident said: “I was just coming out of my house to go and visit my mum who stays nearby, and was alarmed to see three police cars and several officers holding what appeared to be guns.
“It was especially strange as there’s a children's festival going on at assembly Roxy and the kids could have been scared by the sight of so many police with large weapons.
“I asked one officer if he was heading into my stair as we have a problematic neighbour but he said no and it’s nothing to worry about.”
