Guardian Edinburgh has teamed up with the keepers of Scotland's built heritage archives - the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) - to bring you some fascinating images of the city's past.

Even archives have to grow and change, so that's where you come in. Archivists at RCAHMS want you to directly add your local knowledge to the national collection via their Canmore portal.

It's hard to imagine the Forth without its iconic red bridge. Whether from exactly the same angle as our featured shot or from a different perspective, your pictures can help shape this part of local history.

The Forth Bridge is one the most photographed parts of the collection. Yet we've included it in the Flickr challenge today for a reason - tomorrow's Loony Dook! Locals traditionally splash around in the River Forth on the morning after Hogmanay and more often than not the bridge tends to get into the frame too.

Whether taken from above, below or even inside the girders, there are plenty of shots of the bridge. But can you come up with something original?

Pictured above in 1887, the bridge was daily work for around 5,000 men - day and night - between 1882 and 1890.

Find out more about the construction of the bridge, see more pictures of it and find out about its many books on Canmore.

If you want to share pictures of anywhere in Scotland on the RCAHMS Canmore archive, click here to register to use the Flickr pool and start adding text and images.

The images in this series can be found in the Victorian Scotland book.
