Edinburgh and the Lothians are set to see a dramatic plunge in temperatures from next week and according to NetWeather’s snow risk chart the capital has a 60 percent chance of snow on Thursday 3 December.
Weather forecasters are predicting the next fortnight to be characterised by plunging temperatures, icy winds, fog and 11 days of snowfall across Scotland.
According to the Met Office, from Monday onwards those living in Edinburgh and the Lothians can expect lows of just one degree celsius with temperatures unlikely to rise above five degrees from Thursday onwards.
NetWeather’s snow risk chart also shows that there is a 100 percent chance of snowfall across parts of Scotland on Saturday December 5 at 9am.
Talking about the cold weather between December 2 to December 11, the Met Office said: "High pressure and generally settled weather will likely give way to wetter, and at times windier, conditions through the first week of December.
“Outbreaks of rain are likely in most areas, notably northern areas at first, and perhaps more southern areas into the weekend.
“Gales may also develop, these most likely for exposed western areas. Later in the period it may well turn more settled, though colder, with a return of night frost and fog.
“Some showers are likely too, these perhaps wintry at times in the north.
“Temperatures may start off near normal, though often feeling colder in windier and wetter spells.

“Below normal temperatures are then slightly more likely for later in the period.”
Bookies have now slashed the odds on a white Christmas in the capital this year with a 3/1 chance it will snow in Edinburgh on Christmas day.
