Edinburgh Alpaca Kiwi becomes dyed in the wool fan of Scottish side Cowdenbeath

He may live in deepest Hearts territory, but Kiwi the Alpaca has firmly nailed his footballing colours to the mast.

The Love Gorgie Farm resident has shunned siblings Ronaldo and Whitley’s support of the Tynecastle side to become a dyed in the wool fan of League Two side Cowdenbeath.

It is unknown whether Kiwi’s South American roots convinced him to pledge allegiance to the Blue Brazil, but it was enough for keepers at the popular Capital attraction to take out match ball sponsorship in his name for their final game of the season against Albion Rovers earlier this month.

It proved to be a lucky charm for the Fifers as goals from Kyle Miller and Iain Russell secured a final day win over their Cliftonhill opponents.

Cowden recently announced that long-serving duo Miller and Fraser Mullen had signed new deals for next season, but the Central Park outfit have given little indication of whether Kiwi will join Gary Bollan’s ranks.

The animals are usually found in the Andes, living around 3,000 metres above sea level in parts of Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru.

But if Fife football folklore is to be believed, it is not the first dose of South American flair to arrive at Central Park, even if the story of the club's 'Blue Brazil' nickname comes with more than a sliver of irony.

Love Gorgie Farm reopened to the public on April 5 after the Scottish Government relaxed its Covid-19 restrictions.

East Kilbride-based charity Love Learning saved the popular visitor attraction in January last year after the former Gorgie City Farm collapsed into liquidation.

The urban farm remains open seven days a week and is free for visitors.
