Edinburgh Aldi store reopens after floodwater washed into the aisles

An Edinburgh Aldi store which had to close after it was hit by flooding last week has reopened today.

The store on Georgie Park Road was forced to close its doors after floodwater washed into the aisles following heavy rains early last week.

An advertisement on Facebook saying the store was closed sparked rumours among Edinburgh residents yesterday, with several saying that the roof of the supermarket had collapsed.

But Aldi’s central team confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the store was forced to close due to water damage.

However while the building flooded, the ceiling did not fall in as some speculated on social media.

The damage has since been repaired and the store at 100 Georgie Park Road has reopened to the public this morning.
