Edinburgh Airport to London British Airways flight declares mid-air emergency

An Edinburgh flight on route to Heathrow Airport from the capital's airport has declared an emergency mid-journey.

The plane was travelling towards London before squawking alert code 7700, which declares an emergency situation onboard.

British Airways flight BA1441 is currently over Watford, and it's not known if it will make an emergency landing somewhere.

A Squawk 7700 is used to identify an aircraft that has encountered a possible serious issue and enables it to have priority over other air traffic travelling to the same airport.

Three days ago we reported on how Edinburgh-bound passenger flight made a U-turn to France as on-board emergency declared, similar to this one.

The ASL Arilines France aircraft, travelling on the Charles De Gaulle to Edinburgh route, declared an emergency just after 3pm on Monday after flying across the English Channel.

A British Airways spokesperson has said: "Our pilots requested a priority landing into Heathrow, as a precaution due to a minor technical issue. The aircraft landed safely."
