Edinburgh Airport's Hilton by Hampton to reopen after operating as a quarantine hotel

Edinburgh Airport’s Hampton by Hilton Hotel is opening again soon after operating as a quarantine facility during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The hotel was one of those used by the Scottish Government to stop travellers spreading the coronavirus, but the Edinburgh establishment will resume normal duties again soon.

Edinburgh Live was made aware that customers were having their bookings cancelled and told the hotel was closed.

Third parties had been contacting people on behalf of the Hilton hotel group ahead of their visits to inform them of the bad news but added they would be offered an alternative room free of charge at the nearby DoubleTree Hotel.

The message stated: "Unfortunately, Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh Airport informed us that they can no longer accommodate you due to being closed. However, they have already found a similar place for you to stay."

When contacted, Edinburgh Airport confirmed that the hotel was currently closed and had been used as a quarantine hotel for a spell but they said it would be reopening soon and they are currently taking bookings for future dates.

A spokesperson for Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh Airport said: “We arranged for the booking to be moved to a nearby airport hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh Airport, while the hotel was reserved for exclusive use.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience that the change of plans has caused.”

The Hampton by Hilton was one of six used by the Scottish Government.

All arrivals to the country from outside the Common Travel Area have had to book and pay for managed isolation in quarantine hotels to help protect against the importation of Covid-19 from February 15, 2021 onwards.

Six hotels close to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports with a combined capacity of 1,300 rooms were used to implement the quarantine at a cost of £1,750 per individual traveller.

All arrivals had to quarantine for at least ten days and were tested twice for the virus – once on day two and once on day eight after arrival.

The rules on travel are changing and it is expected the Scottish Government will offer more clarity on the rules and future for the remaining hotels in the coming weeks.

The hotel, located within 5 minutes walking distance from the Edinburgh Airport terminal, is back taking bookings again.

The six-storey Hampton by Hilton in Edinburgh's West End was built in 2018 and has 240 bedrooms.
