Edinburgh Airport restaurants and bars ranked from worst to best according to TripAdvisor

With summer just around the corner, many Scots will be preparing to jet off for some much-needed sun in the coming months.

As a result, Edinburgh Airport will likely see a major increase in the number of people passing through.

If you haven't left the country since before the pandemic, the thought of finding yourself in a busy airport again may be a daunting one.

For those that arrive with a bit of time to kill before you are able to board your flight — you will no doubt be tempted to grab a drink or a bite to eat.

And to help you decide where are the best venues at Edinburgh Airport, we took a look at TripAdvisor, where each one has been assigned an average score out of five.

According to the online travel company, here are all of the food and drink venues at Edinburgh Airport ranked from worst to best.

Burger King

Rating: 2/5

Number of reviews: 19

Coming in last place, with an average rating of just 2/5, is Burger King. While fast food restaurants will never be a fine dining experience, visitors were particularly unimpressed with the "cold" and "congealed" food at this branch.

What one customer said: "Not clean and the most awful bacon roll and coffee. Only ate half of it as I was hungry and took a few sips of the coffee. Never ever again."

Hudston St Grill

Rating: 2.5/5

Number of reviews: 6

With a slightly higher average than Burger King, though far less reviews, Hudston St Grill left TripAdvisor users divided — with an equal number of 1/5 and 4/5 ratings. Some users praised its "tasty" food and "attentive" staff, while others slammed its slow service.

What one customer said: "When a bacon roll it’s £6 at least you expect fresh roll and not old one. I send the toll back and got a refund. Been told by the manager that they never said that rolls are fresh so they are not misleading the customers. I don’t think it’s right."

Caffè Nero

Rating: 2.5/5

Number of reviews: 44

The Caffè Nero at Edinburgh Airport has the same average score as Hudston St Grill, but with a lot more reviews. Most reviews range from very negative to lukewarm, with visitors commenting on the coffee shop's "burnt and bitter" coffee and "disorganised" staff.

What one customer said: "Only when a captive audience member would I use but espresso needed. A bit thin and really a small one even by espresso standards. Croissants filled a corner but won’t be winning any baking awards!"

Barburrito

Rating: 3/5

Number of reviews: 26

Most TripAdvisor users agreed that if you're just after a quick bite to eat before your flight, Barburrito is decent enough — which is reflected in its score. The staff divided opinion, however, with some applauding them as "very friendly", while others called them "appalling".

What one customer said: "Food isn't too bad, glad they had vegan options so that I don't soil myself on the plane. However, the staff need to wind their necks in and not make a comment for every one of your choices. I felt like I was being persecuted for having a pinch of spinach."

Wetherspoon - The Sir Walter Scott

The Sir Walter Scott received mixed reviews (Wetherspoon)

Rating: 3/5

Number of reviews: 378

The Spoons at Edinburgh Airport is another venue that split opinion amongst TripAdvisor users. While the majority of reviews gave it either a 3/5 or 4/5 rating, a large number of 1/5 scores dragged its average down.

What one customer said: "As a rule you know what you are going to get at a Wetherspoons. OK food at OK prices. Given its location, and that it has a fairly captive audience it does both of these. It was very busy so that tells its own story."

Costa Coffee

Rating: 3.5/5

Number of reviews: 117

Coming out ahead of rival coffee chain Caffè Nero, the Costa at the airport has received mostly positive reviews from customers. Most praised its "great" coffee and "attentive" staff, though a few users took issue with its "slow service".

What one customer said: "Contrary to some other reviews I found the staff here very pleasant and sincere in their service - smiles, thank you and conversation. Service was prompt too and completely satisfied our needs - simple, tasty snacks and good coffee. Above average of its kind for snack food on the go."

All Bar One

Rating: 4.5/5

Number of reviews: 545

The clear winner in this roundup, with an average score of 4.5/5 — shooting ahead of the competition — is All Bar One. With the vast majority of reviewers giving the venue a 5/5 rating, heading here is a safe bet if you want to start your holiday off right. From the "wonderful customer service" to the "outstanding" food, most users had trouble finding anything to fault.

What one customer said: "As an anxious flyer I popped into this lovely place for a cup of tea and left feeling fab with also my breakfast as the staff were so nice and calming I felt I could eat rather that just have my cuppa. Food was outstanding but service was above and beyond, lovely girl Gosia served me and made sure I was ok throughout my visit. Will be heading to airport early next time for more delicious food and service."
