Edinburgh Airport flights cancelled as Tui grounds all Scottish trips amid Covid

Flights from Edinburgh with Tui have been scrapped as the airline battles the on going coronavirus pandemic.

Tui, the package holiday travel company, have grounded a number of flights around the UK as travel restrictions around the globe change.

Despite Britain being on the green list to some countries, Tui has stopped flights to red and amber listed destinations.

All flights, with the airline, from Scotland have been cancelled up to and including June 13, affecting the Edinburgh-Larnaca route.

On a statement on their website, Tui said: "All customers impacted by these cancellations will be contacted directly and will be able to request a full cash refund, or to change to a later date or alternative holiday and receive a booking incentive.

"If we need to cancel any future holidays because of updated Government guidance, we will be in touch directly and aim to give customers at least 7 days’ notice.

"We would like to thank our customers for their understanding at this time".

Destinations that have been cancelled

  • Aruba
  • Croatia
  • Cyprus
  • Greece - Crete (Chania), Halkidiki, Kefalonia, Preveza, Samos, Santorini, Skiathos, Thassos, Zante
  • Italy
  • Jamaica
  • Spain – Mainland Spain, Formentera, Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, La Palma
  • Tanzania

However, the first flight from Edinburgh will take off on June 15 to Palma and Tenerife.

A spokesperson from Tui said that over summer they’ll be operating to Lanzarote, Paphos, Corfu, Turkey and Mexico.

EasyJet also have cancelled flights and have yet to give information out regarding holidays in July, as travel advice changes rapidly and a new variant spreads across the UK.

Flights from Edinburgh can still be taken with other airlines, if the destination is on the Green list.

Countries on the Green List

  • Portugal
  • Israel
  • Singapore
  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Brunei
  • Iceland
  • Gibraltar
  • Falkland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • South Georgia and the Sandwich Islands
  • St Helena, Tristan de Cunha and Ascension Island

Many Scots have been enjoying the sun in Portugal and do not need to quarantine on their return.

However, those who fly to amber or red listed countries will need to take a PCR test before returning, two after and isolate for 10 days.
