Edin Dzeko’s outrageously delayed flop ended an altercation with Pepe

A.S. Roma took on Porto in Wednesday’s Champions League Round of 16 match, and we were treated to a glorious flop from Roma forward Edin Dzeko.

In the second half, Dzeko exchanged words with Porto defender Pepe. And at one point, Pepe’s forehead made slight contact with Dzeko’s head.

Now, normally in these soccer-related altercations, the slightest hint of contact would have sent Dzeko to the pitch immediately. That’s the common practice.

Dzeko, though, didn’t do that right away. Instead, he continued to exchange words with Pepe. When Pepe directed an expletive his way upon the referee’s arrival, Dzeko then grabbed his forehead and fell down in pain.

That delayed reaction was everything. It was so late that he should actually be embarrassed by it. Soccer flops deserve better.

Despite Dzeko’s best efforts (or worst, really) to get Pepe sent off, both Dzeko and Pepe were hit with yellow cards.
