Edgware Road chaos as police clash with fans after France World Cup win

  • Disorder erupted on Edgware Road, London, on Thursday night following France 's World Cup victory over Morocco .
  • Police and fans clashed, with footage on social media showing flares set off and missiles thrown at officers.
  • One police officer was taken to hospital with a head injury after being struck by a glass bottle during the incident, according to the Metropolitan Police .
  • The force said it made four arrests for violent disorder, saying in a statement: “We will be reviewing CCTV and video footage circulating on social media to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice.”
  • Leader of Westminster City Council, Paul Swaddle, said: “I condemn this behaviour and appeal to all fans to be respectful throughout the tournament.”
