Ederson explains how Man City have moved on since David Silva departure

Ederson is predicting a bright future for this young Manchester City team as they move on without one of their all-time greats.

David Silva said a lonely goodbye to an empty Etihad back in summer after 10 glorious years of lighting up the Premier League, and the struggles of Pep Guardiola's side at the beginning of the new campaign highlighted to many the enduring brilliance of the Spanish playmaker.

Slowly but surely, the Blues have pieced together their form and head to West Brom on Tuesday on the back of ten straight wins in all competitions. While Kevin De Bruyne's injury gives the manager another headache, the performances shown by Phil Foden and Ferran Torres have encouraged City's goalkeeper that they are in a good place moving forward.

“The departure of David Silva was a big miss for us. To me, he is one of the best players I have ever seen. His talent was unbelievable," said Ederson.

"But, on the other hand, we have Phil Foden now. He has experienced a huge growth this season. Ferran Torres also came to help us out. Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva are also in great shape. I think we have a young team and we are in good hands. We give everything to play good football and try to win.”

Despite missing a league game after testing positive for Covid-19, Ederson is currently on course to win a second consecutive Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets in a season, with his total of 10 one more than Aston Villa's Emi Martinez has managed. City'y stopper has benefitted from having an improved backline in front of him, and is especially pleased to see centre-back John Stones take the plaudits after a difficult two years at the club.

“He is a great centre-back. I have always liked him. He has a huge heart," he said.

"I like him and I get along with him very well. I have always supported him and I'm delighted about his success. This season, I'm very happy for him for everything he has gone through, the injuries he suffered. I think he deserves everything. I hope he can enjoy this moment and he can carry on helping us until the end of the season.

“To me, it's very important that they are focused, not only John Stones and Ruben Dias, but any player who plays as a centre-back. In the last few games, John and Ruben have been at a very good level. I'm very happy with their performance and the performance of our defensive line in general. I hope we can keep the same level in the future.”
