It's not a regular theme to see a 38-year-old professional bear as much of an influence as Matt Gilks has on Bolton Wanderers revival this season.
Having joined Wanderers last summer as both a player and the club's goalkeeping coach, Gilks inherited first-choice duties in November following Billy Crellin's omission and has established his credentials as Ian Evatt's No.1.
Even the arrival of Lukas Jensen on loan from Burnley has failed to oust Gilks, who despite his age has kept himself in excellent condition to participate in 34 league matches during this campaign.
Bolton's form in 2021 has seen them rise from play-off outcasts to one game away from an immediate League One return, and in that time no League Two goalkeeper has more - and it's a tally that leaves him in some highly-acclaimed company.
Across England's top four tiers, Watford's Daniel Bachmann and Blackpool's Chris Maxwell share the must shutouts in 2021 with 13. Gilks is perched joint second, alongside Norwich City's Tim Krul, Cheltenham Town's Josh Griffiths and Crawley Town's Glenn Morris.
And it's a tally that puts him ahead of Manchester City's Edersen, who tops the Premier League charts for most clean sheets during this calendar year.
Impressive stuff from an individual perspective, but Gilks is just focused on the collective goal. One shutout against Crawley Town would arguably be his most crucial - and it could even potentially be his last, with his future beyond this season uncertain.
