Eden Hazard's Real Madrid shirt number confirmed: £130m signing to follow Cristiano Ronaldo with No.7 jersey

Real Madrid have handed Cristiano Ronaldo's iconic no. 7 shirt to Eden Hazard, with striker Mariano Diaz switching to 24 for the 2019-20 season.

Hazard wanted the number 10, but that belongs to Luka Modric and its former owner, James Rodriguez, has been given 16 on his return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

The Belgian, who used the number 50 in pre-season, therefore takes the no. 7, worn by illustrious Madrid players including Ronaldo, Raul, Emilio Butragueno, Juanito, Raymond Kopa and Amancio Amaro.

Mariano, who was given the number last summer when he was bought back by Madrid from Lyon, will wear the no. 24 in 2019-20, although he could still leave the club this month.

Of the other new arrivals, Eder Militao has been given the number 3, Ferland Mendy will wear 23 and Luka Jovic takes 18.

Brazilian forward Rodrygo has been given the no. 27 shirt, while Vinicius Junior will continue in the 28 jersey. Gareth Bale, if he stays, will once again wear 11, the number used by Neymar at Barcelona.
