Eddie Van Halen dead: Tributes pour in for rocker who has died of throat cancer age 65

Celebrities have come out in force to pay tribute to Eddie Van Halen after the rocker’s son confirmed he died today at the age of 65.

The legendary guitarist and founder of Van Halen had battled throat cancer for ten years.

After learning of his tragic death, the devastated showbiz world has come out to pay tribute to the rock legend.

Condolences from some of rock's biggest names immediately followed the news of the star’s passing.

The star's former bandmate Sammy Hagar, who played guitar with the band from 2003 to 2005 lead tributes, simply writing: "Heartbroken and speechless. My love to the family," alongside a picture of himself and Eddie on a private jet.

KISS' Gene Simmons took to Twitter to write: “My heart is broken. Eddie was not only a Guitar God, but a genuinely beautiful soul. Rest in peace, Eddie!”

Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea said: “Oh man, bless his beautiful creative heart. I love you Eddie Van Halen, an LA boy, a true rocker.

“I hope you jam with Jimi tonight. Break through to the other side my brother.”

Nickleback wrote on their official Twitter: “The world lost an icon, innovator, showman, virtuoso, master songwriter and perhaps one of the biggest inspirations ever to learn how to play guitar.

“Heartbroken to hear of Eddie Van Halen’s passing.

“Our love, condolences and best wishes to his his family, friends and fans.”

Founding member of Black Sabbath Geezer Bulter posted his condolences, penning: “Just when I thought 2020 couldn't get any worse, I hear Eddie Van Halen has passed.

“So shocking- One of the nicest, down to Earth men I have ever met and toured with.

“A true gent and true genius. RIP. So sad.Thoughts go out to his brother Alex, and his family.”

Duane “Dog The Bounty Hunter” Lee Chapman wrote on Instagram : “Our deepest sympathies,” as Eddie’s son announced his father’s passing.

Eddie’s devastated son broke the tragic news of his dad’s death to fans this evening.

"I can't believe I'm having to write this, but my father Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.

"He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I've shared with him on and off stage was a gift.

"My heart is broken and I don't think I'll ever full recover from this loss.

"I love you so much, Pop," shared Wolfgang, who became Van Halen's bassist in 2006.

While Eddie was a heavy smoker, he maintained that he developed throat cancer from a carrying a metal guitar pick in his mouth so frequently.
