Eddie the Teddy treks 12km to raise buckets of cash in Paisley school's charity challenge

Eddie the Teddy put his best foot forward to support St Paul’s Primary School in an island charity walk.

The Foxbar school’s mascot decided he wasn’t going to be outdone by pupils and staff in their push to win the Cash for Kids School Challenge for a second year in a row.

He clocked up the kilometres in a walk from the northern end of Cumbrae to Millport and collected some all important pennies for the school.

They are taking on a host of other West of Scotland schools in Clyde 1’s charity challenge.

Last year they scooped the top spot after raising a whopping £18,353 through a host of innovative fundraising events.

Things might look a little different this time out due to the pandemic but staff and pupils are determined to collect as much money as possible for vulnerable children in Scotland - and retain their crown.

Yvonne Moohan, from the school’s parent council, said Eddie was delighted to get involved but got a bit tired on the way.

She said: “Eddie the Teddy, our school mascot has had a couple of outings to cheer our pupils on which makes a change from all of the dancing in supermarket foyers last year.

“We felt though that he has been a bit lazy this year and needed put to the test, so we sent him on his very own Cash for Kids School Challenge.

“Eddie walked almost 12km from the ferry pier at the northern end of Great Cumbrae into the town of Millport to help raise money for Clyde Cash for Kids.”

The children have had crazy hair days, socially-distanced dance-a-thons and some pupils have taken on their very own personal challenges.

One brave pupil, Cara, will also have a 11 inches cut from her hair as part of the fundraising efforts.

The hair will go to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness

The challenge ends on Friday and you can donate at https://bit.ly/31a1pus
