After winning an Oscar, actors are given a rather short amount of time to utilise their moment in the spotlight and make some prime decisions as to what to work on next. Just ask Halle Berry. While it’s been pretty quiet so far from Julianne Moore, Patricia Arquette and JK Simmons, best actor winner Eddie Redmayne has been difficult to avoid.
There’s been news of his first post-Oscar project in the new Thomas the Tank Engine movie, we’ve seen the first still from his upcoming role as transgender pioneer Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl and there are probably even a couple of cinemas still showing his campy villain role in sci-fi flop Jupiter Ascending. But, if an Australian TV producer has his way, we might be seeing even more of him.
During press surrounding his Oscar for playing Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, Redmayne took time to praise Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne, better known as Karl and Susan Kennedy in Neighbours. In an interview with Elle, he referred to them as “the greatest unsung acting duo in history,” while he told news.com.au that he “learnt a lot from them”.
Series producer Jason Herbison has told the Sun that he’s keen for the actor to make a cameo role in an upcoming episode.
“If we could cap off an incredible year for Eddie by writing a guest role, however big or small, it would be our privilege,” he said. “I would ensure he moves into the Kennedys’ – they are renowned for hospitality.”
The show is currently preparing for a 30th anniversary special, which is set to feature cameos from Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Margot Robbie.
