Eddie Redmayne: from Stephen Hawking to superhero?

To the Hollywood labour market, where Theory of Everything star Eddie Redmayne issues a come-and-get-me plea to the producers of comic book blockbusters.

“I love the films,” he tells the Sun. “You know how in summer, when studios compete for people to see their summer blockbusters, I am their dream. I see all of them. I would never rule out the opportunity to be in one.”

Very wise. After all, as a somewhat dispiriting recent Grantland article laid bare, superhero movies are seemingly ever more what Hollywood does.

To summarise: in 2015, we can expect Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and The Fantastic Four. But 2016 is where things begin to consolidate, with releases for Superman v Batman: Age of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, X Men: Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, Deadpool, The Sinister Six, The Sandman, and Gambit. 2017 will see The Wolverine 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Wonder Woman, The Fantastic Four 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, The Justice League part One, and an untitled female superhero Spiderman spin-off. 2018 will bring The Flash, Avengers: Infinity War Part One, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Inhumans, The Amazing Spiderman 3, and a promising-sounding Untitled 20th Century Fox Marvel project. 2019 unleashes Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, Shazam!, and Justice League Part Two. All we know so far of 2020 is that we’ll see Cyborg and Green Lantern.

So yes, there seems little sense in Eddie ruling out the possibility of appearing in a comic book movie, certainly as far as his agent is concerned.
