Eddie O'Leary sells five horses for €300,000 at Newmarket's Craven Breeze Up Sale

Eddie O'Leary's horse breeding operation sold five horses to a total tune of over €300,000 yesterday.

Brother of Ryanair boss Michael, Eddie's Lynn Lodge Stud brought five thoroughbreds to the Craven Breeze Up Sale in Newmarket.

All of them attracted plenty of interest, with a son of Profitable going for the biggest sum at 100,000 guineas to Irish trainer Michael O'Callaghan.

He also sold a son of Shalaa for 67,000 guineas to Howson & Houldsworth Bloodstock.

The O'Leary brothers are more famous for their exploits in national hunt racing, but Michael announced in 2019 that he would be downsizing his racing empire over five years.

Last year, Eddie sold a filly to powerful owners Goldolphin for 1,450,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales.

Speaking after that sale, Eddie, who is racing manager for Michael's Gigginstown House Stud, said: "She was always a Queen and made a Queen's price there. I hope she is very lucky for Sheikh Mohammed, she is a smashing filly."

Tuesday's sales came after Michael congratulated Rachael Blackmore following her historic Grand National win on Minella Times.

In a statement to racing presenter Matt Chapman on Sunday, the businessman said: "We identified Rachael early on as a very good jockey - not a female jockey - and we put her on all the Gigginstown Horses with Henry and Joseph (O'Brien).

"Her hard work and intelligence has done all the rest and it is a phenomenal achievement for her and all her family who supported her all the way.

"Henry should retire now because its never going to get any better. Like Alex the Great he has no more worlds to conquer."
