Eddie Nketiah's goal celebration explained after netting Arsenal equaliser vs Everton

Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah has explained the reason behind his phone call celebration after his goal against Everton.

Nketiah spent the first half of the season on loan at Leeds United but was recalled by the Gunners after failing to secure regular starts under Marcelo Bielsa.

The intention had been to send the 20-year-old to another Championship club for the remainder of the campaign but Arteta changed his mind and opted to keep the forward at the Emirates.

And Nketiah rewarded his manager’s faith by scoring his side’s equaliser in their 3-2 win over Carlo Ancelotti’s side on Sunday afternoon.

Following the goal at the Emirates, his second in only his second Premier League start, the England youth international mimed making a phone call.

And the 20-year-old, speaking after the game, said how his Carly Rae Jepsen-style celebration started before he broke into the Gunners first team.

“In pre-season the Arsenal Media came up with a little thing 'call me if you need a goal' so I have kind of just stuck with it,” Nketiah said.

“A lot of my friends like it so they are eager for me to dial them up if I get on the scoresheet.

"I try to enjoy each goal, whether that is youth level, in the park, anywhere I always try to celebrate and enjoy it and it is always a blessing to score.”
