Eddie Murphy, eh? WHAT A DUDE! Loved him as Axel Foley, loved him even more as Akim, the African prince living in Queens and son of the voice of CNN. And some of us are clinging hard to his hurh-hurh-hurh heyday in the wake of revelations that are a little damaging to the gentleman's credibility. But boy oh boy is our faith restored by the latest interview in People magazine.
At a film premiere last week Murphy showed off the diamond ring he gave to his lady companion, a surprisingly conscious and not wholly subnormal woman called Tracey Edmonds. "No this isn't an engagement ring," Murphy, '46', hastily informed the magazine. "If I were gonna do an engagement ring it would be much bigger. This big!" he finished classily, making a circle with his thumb and forefinger. Not as big as the diamond hanging from his earlobe, or the baby he fathered with Scary Spice (always our favourite Spice) who he then dumped on TV and then denied the paternity thereof (oops, where did that come from?) but, still, what a man!
Incidentally, the premiere was for a film produced by the lady love, Tracey Edmonds. Name of the movie? Who's the Caddy?. Name of Edmonds' ex-husband who attended the premiere as well? Babyface.
Oh Eddie, we're trying reeeallly hard to block out the past but it just kinda creeps on up you, don't it?
