Eddie Jones says this England team 'is finished' as he hits out at criticism following Rugby World Cup final defeat

Eddie Jones plans to overhaul the England team beaten in Saturday's Rugby World Cup final.

Jones' men fell short at the final hurdle as they were blown away 32-12 by South Africa in Yokohama.

And, despite many predicting this England side could be together for years to come, Jones says things will change over the coming months.

“I tell you what happens to teams – they evolve,” Jones told the Guardian.

"Some guys will lose desire, some guys will lose fitness, some guys will get injuries and there’ll be young guys come through. So this team is finished now. There will be a new team made. We’ll make a new team for the Six Nations and that new team for the Six Nations will be the basis of going to the next World Cup."

Jones spoke of his pride in his players and was openly annoyed at the negative reaction the team have faced over the past 48 hours.

Many fans have criticised players for refusing to wear their silver medals , while others were shocked they blew the opportunity of a lifetime after demolishing New Zealand just seven days before.

Jones added: I’m so proud of the players, the way they’ve prepared, the way they’ve worked. They’re great ambassadors for the sport and great ambassadors for England and I’m disappointed there’s such a negative attitude about our performance.

"We’ve just taken a team that couldn’t get out of the pools and just got beaten in the final and there’s all this negativity about their performance.”
