Eddie Jones names 16 uncapped stars in England training squad as Kyle Sinckler misses out

Sixteen uncapped players will have a chance to make an impression ahead of England 's summer tour of Australia as Eddie Jones named a new-look training squad on Monday.

The 35-man contingent doesn't include players from Leicester Tigers, Saracens, Harlequins or Northampton Saints, who make up this year's Premiership semi-finals. England travel to Australia later this month before they open a three-Test series against the Wallabies in Perth on July 2.

Five of those named for the three-day camp at The Lensbury Resort in Teddington will be involved with the senior squad for the first time. Charlie Atkinson, Biyi Alo, Freddie Clarke, Sam Jeffries and Patrick Schickerling will each be hoping to make an impact 18 months out from the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Wasps back-rower Alfie Barbeary and London Irish winger Ollie Hassell-Collins are among those who are yet to make their senior debut but were involved in this year's Six Nations. Star backs Jonny May and Jack Nowell —each of whom were part of the squad that finished runner-up at the 2019 World Cup—return to the squad following time out due to injuries.

Despite not being involved in this year's Premiership play-offs, Kyle Sinckler is a notable absence from the latest squad. The Bristol Bears prop will take time off this summer to recover from a longstanding back issue, while Manu Tuilagi, Sam Simmonds and Henry Slade will also miss the Australia tour.

Many fans will be excited to see full-back Henry Arundell named among England's ranks after a breakout season with the Exiles. The lightning-quick 19-year-old once captained Scotland 's under-18s and qualifies to represent Wales, but a cap for England this summer would lock down his allegiances.

British and Irish Lions -capped Anthony Watson —who joins Leicester from Bath this summer—will link up with the squad to rehab a calf issue. He'll be joined by fellow Lion Luke Cowan-Dickie, who suffered a knee injury during the Six Nations in March.

England face the Barbarians at Twickenham on June 19, and Jones will have the losing Premiership semi-finalists at his disposal when he announces his squad for the fixture on Sunday (June 12). France coach Fabien Galthie will hope to heap more misery on England after beating them en route to a Six Nations Grand Slam earlier this year.

“With a number of players unavailable because of the Premiership semi-finals, we’ve got the opportunity to call up some new players," said Jones upon announcing his latest training squad. “It’s a great opportunity to learn about them and see what potential they have to play a part in the Australia tour."
