Eddie Howe will assess Matty Longstaff before making decision on future

Eddie Howe says he is yet to make a decision on Matty Longstaff’s future - despite his return to the club from Aberdeen.

The midfielder’s loan deal was cut short after a lack of game time in the Scottish Premiership.

But with Longstaff back on Tyneside, Howe told Chronicle Live: “I need to make a decision based on what I see.

“He will come back into the training group.

“We haven’t seen him yet but he will come back in the training group and I’ll make my assessment then.”

Longstaff was barely used last season by Steve Bruce despite signing a new contract.

And this season a loan deal set up by loan manager Shola Ameobi has only yielded in limited appearances.
