Eddie Howe warns against 'disjointed' Premier League battle as Covid sweeps through football

Eddie Howe says he is concerned that more postponements could make for a "disjointed" competition in the Premier League.

Howe is well aware of the need for the safety of supporters but in light of Brentford boss Thomas Frank's suggestions of a circuit breaker, the Newcastle United chief knows the dangers of a clutch of games being called off while others play on.

A glance at the Premier League table still has Newcastle within swinging distance of climbing out of the bottom three as they are only three points behind Watford.

But the Hornets now have a game in hand while Burnley have two matches to catch up on meaning the gap could grow between Newcastle and those directly above them.

Howe said: "The key thing for me is, and it's just my opinion, we don't want half the games played, and half off.

"I think the League really loses something when it becomes disjointed when it loses something because of the games not played.

"The decision needs to be for the benefit of the League to make sure there is integrity in the competition.

"That would be my view on it.

"I think they all go ahead or not, we can't have half played and half not."
