Former Celtic target Eddie Howe has been spotted in the stands at the Amex this evening amid a step back into management for the 43-year old.
Sky Italia and Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romaro had reported that Howe has a verbal agreement to join Newcastle on a deal until 2024.
But there were noises it could be stalled as they had yet to come to agreement with his technical staff members - an issue that cost Howe a summer move to Celtic.
However BT Sport have confirmed that this is only a minor stumbling block and the deal is on.
And their cameras caught Howe in attendance as he was shown around by new part owner Amanda Stavely ahead of kick-off.
Howe has not been in management since he left the Bournemouth in August 2020 following the club's relegation from the top flight.
If Howe was to join the Toon, he would be reunited with some familiar faces in the form of Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Matt Ritchie from his time at the Cherries.
Newcastle are winless with ten games in and sit bottom of the English Premier League.
