Eddie Howe to Celtic won't be quick fix despite Brendan Rodgers similarities

Eddie Howe won’t come in and immediately turn Celtic’ s fortunes around despite similarities to Brendan Rodgers.

The ex-Bournemouth boss has been made the bookies’ favourite to replace under fire Neil Lennon when he does leave Celtic Park, whether that’s in the summer or before then.

But former Celtic striker Mark McGhee has warned not to expect instant success if Howe was to take the reins.

The former Motherwell and Aberdeen manager compared Howe to previous Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in how he goes about his work.

But he’s told not to expect a similar upturn in fortunes that saw Rodgers sweep all before him in the Scottish Premiership before leaving for Leicester.

“Eddie Howe is your modern coach,” he told PLZ. “Many of the sorts of things Brendan would have been doing, Eddie would continue that.

“I don’t know if he’s the kind of guy that would come in and turn it around this season and suddenly start catching Rangers. I don’t know if that is his effect.

“I think his effect is more the medium to longer term approach with recruitment and looking at all of that, and getting that right again.

“I think Eddie Howe would be a brilliant appointment but I don’t expect him to start winning the league this season or maybe next season.

“I think it would take Eddie Howe time to really implement his methodology.”
