Eddie Howe to Celtic is ON as Bournemouth collapse clears the way for imminent Parkhead switch

Wanted Eddie Howe is closing in on becoming the next manager of Celtic after Bournemouth came apart at the seams in their Championship playoff semi-final.

Record Sport revealed on Tuesday that the 43-year-old was in line for a bumper pay-off if the Cherries secured promotion back to the Premier League.

But a top flight return appeared an impossible dream from the moment Chris Mepham was shown a straight red card after he upended Bryan Mbuemo following his own slapstick defending.

Former Celtic target Ivan Toney cancelled out Arnaut Danjuma's opener before Vitaly Janelt and Marcus Forrs struck to secure a 3-2 aggregate win for the Bees.

And now all roads to lead to Parkhead for Howe who is poised to bring Richard Hughes in as his technical director alongside coaches Stephen Purches and Simon Weatherstone.

Former Parkhead star Peter Grant is another name in the frame for a coaching role as the Englishman looks to put his own stamp on the big rebuild.

It's set to be a summer of a transition with long-term skipper Scott Brown heading to Aberdeen and the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Kris Ajer and Ryan Christie set to be targets for other teams.

It will be a quick turnaround for the new manager with Champions League qualifiers coming hot on the heels of Euro 2020.

John Kennedy has been in interim charge since replacing Neil Lennon after the Irishman called time on his time as boss back in February.
