Eddie Howe to Celtic almost done as first choice puts together backroom staff

Eddie Howe is reportedly on the brink of becoming Celtic ’s new manager.

The former Bournemouth boss was locked in talks over the weekend and an agreement is understood to be close that will see Howe become permanent successor to Neil Lennon.

A deal seemed to be a way off when Howe’s representatives said he wouldn’t be making any decision until the summer.

This came after doubts surfaced over whether he would be able to bring his own backroom team to Celtic Park.

However, the Daily Mail reports that there has been progress on that front and Howe is edging closer to the Parkhead hot seat.

And there could be a role for former Celtic striker Mark Burchill alongside trusted coaches Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches.

Howe is also keen to bring director of football and former Scotland international Richard Hughes in as his director of football but there are further negotiations to take place before that becomes a reality.

Interim boss John Kennedy takes the Hoops to Ibrox this Sunday in what looks like being one of his final games at the helm.

It’s unclear whether Kennedy would stay on in any capacity should Howe be appointed.

The Englishman will need to get to grips with his squad quickly however, with Champions League qualifiers set to get underway in July.

However, the main aim is wrestling the Scottish Premiership title back off Rangers and securing an automatic Champions League slot in 2022/23.
