Eddie Howe targets Celtic role for Richard Hughes as John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan prepare to stay

Eddie Howe is closing in on the Celtic job, and wants to be joined by Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes.

The ex-Cherries boss is in advanced talks with the Hoops and is expected to be named as Neil Lennon's replacement in the Celtic Park hotseat soon.

He's held talks with Dermot Desmond and the Celtic board and has rejected offers from two English Premier League sides to hold out for the Hoops job.

And It’s former Scotland international Hughes that Howe wants to bring in to help restructure the football department.

The Glasgow-born midfielder was capped five times for Scotland in 2004/05 and grew up in Italy, beginning his career with Atalanta before joining Arsenal.

He was best known for his time at Bournemouth and Portsmouth during his playing career before joining the recruitment team at the south east club.

He was then promoted to technical director and has been in that role in recent years.

The Daily Mail report that Howe is willing to continue working alongside John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan as coaches.

Many Celtic fans expected both to leave if Howe moved to Celtic but Kennedy is highly-rated at the club and Strachan has only been there for a year.

And although Hughes will help restructure the football department, it's believed both will be sticking around to help the expected new boss out.
