Eddie Howe says Newcastle players must 'use pain' of Tottenham defeat in upcoming home run of fixtures

Eddie Howe wants Newcastle United to get back to the type of approach that produced a nine-game unbeaten run earlier in the season.

Three successive defeats have since unfolded and while three consecutive home games are next for the Magpies, Newcastle still face three sides, in Wolves, Leicester and Crystal Palace, that have their sights set on a top 10 finish. For Howe, though, he knows that only a switch in outlook will get his players back to winning ways.

Speaking after the 5-1 defeat at the hands of Spurs, Howe said: "I can't control how my players think. But Spurs will serve as a reminder that we have a lot of work ahead of us.

"We need to be very calm. But we must use the pain of Spurs in our next games and get the stadium absolutely rocking. We need to deliver the performances that have made the difference.

"The type of solid aggressive running we have become accustomed to. We didn't really see that (at Spurs) and need it back."
