Lamine Yamal converted a penalty deep into stoppage time for Barcelona, levelling the score after a foul on substitute Dani Olmo by Malick Thiaw.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed confidence in his team's ability to compete with Europe's elite despite the “soft” equaliser, stating the tie is very much alive.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick admitted his side struggled for periods but was ultimately content with the 1-1 draw, praising his team's defensive performance.
