Eddie Howe's transfer vow in last week of window as Newcastle boss responds to fresh Joao Pedro bid

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has reacted to suggestions that Joao Pedro's move to St James' Park has been agreed.

A spate of reports last night indicated that a deal had been struck with Watford for Pedro but while Howe did not deny interest in the striker, he stated he was waiting for the green light on the deal. Newcastle are believed to have suggested three offers for the Watford star.

Howe, speaking at his press conference ahead of the trip to Tranmere, said: "I think that (news it was done last night) is not entirely accurate. But I am not dealing with these things minute to minute or day by day.

"I'm sort of in the background hearing what's happening but I don't think that was correct."

When asked if he was still expecting to be active, Howe said: "Yes, we've got to."

Speaking about the clash against Tranmere, Howe said: "We can't underestimate the task we have, it is a difficult place to go.

"Micky Mellon is an outstanding manager and he will have his game plan to try to upset us. We will need to stamp our game plan on things as quickly as possible."
