Eddie Howe's Celtic move collapsed as he 'was unhappy with transfer targets presented to him'

Eddie Howe allegedly pulled out of becoming Celtic boss after being less than satisfied by the calibre of transfer targets presented to him during negotiations.

The ex-Bournemouth manager has been in talks with the Hoops hierarchy for the best part of three months, since Neil Lennon resigned in February, and he was the red-hot favourite to take the reins at Parkhead.

Howe was odds-on with bookmakers but the Englishman dropped a bombshell this evening as it was revealed dialogue had broken down and he wouldn't be succeeding Lennon.

Celtic issued a statement tonight claiming the decision was 'outwith their control' but talkSPORT are reporting a completely different set of events entirely.

The radio station are reporting that Howe was unhappy with the transfer targets discussed as he thrashed out a deal, and he wouldn't put his reputation on the line without significant backing from the Celtic board.

Celtic are now reportedly in talks with another managerial candidate but it remains to be seen if the unnamed coach also has misgivings regarding the vacant post.
