Eddie Howe retakes Celtic manager favourite mantle as Roy Keane tumbles down betting markets in odds shake up

There has been another shake-up in the betting for the next Celtic manager as Eddie Howe returned to the position of heavy favourite on Sunday.

Timing has been everything for those putting a wager on who will eventually fill Neil Lennon 's shoes as the next permanent boss, as bookies have moved to suspend their markets on several occasions.

First it was legendary Spanish gaffer Rafa Benitez who put the freeze on after a flurry of bets following his resignation from his post in charge of Chinese side Dalian Pro.

He's since ruled himself out of the running and ex-Bournemouth boss Howe then became the hot favourite before Manchester United great Roy Keane emerged as a leading candidate in recent weeks.

Enzo Maresca, the manager of Manchester City's Under-23s, has always been there or thereabouts too, and his name still refuses to budge.

But the latest movement in the odds has seen Howe return to the top, priced as short as 4/9 with some bookmakers, with Keane sliding down.

The Irishman is now below Howe and current interim manager John Kennedy with Lennon's former assistant currently available at 10/3, according to Oddschecker.

Top five next Celtic manager odds

Eddie Howe - 4/9

John Kennedy - 10/3

Roy Keane - 4/1

Enzo Maresca - 5/1

Chris Wilder - 13/2
