Eddie Howe 'putting together' Celtic backroom team as he nears move to Glasgow

Eddie Howe is reportedly closing in on becoming Celtic's next manager and is "piecing together" the coaches he wants to join him in Glasgow.

The 43-year-old has been locked in talks in recent weeks and former Parkhead striker Mark Burchill could land a key role.

However, the Daily Mail report a move for trusted confidante Richard Hughes as director of football isn't a done deal with the Glaswegian keen to remain close to his family on the south coast.

But coaches Simon Weatherstone and Stephen Purches could be part of the Howe revolution as Celtic gear up for a vital season.

Interim boss John Kennedy will take his side to Ibrox on Sunday but the real challenge will be beating champions Rangers to the title next season and earning an automatic Champions League slot in 2022/23.

The likes of Roy Keane and Enzo Maresca have been linked with the vacancy since Neil Lennon left in February but Howe has positioned himself as the top choice in recent times, reports The Daily Record.

Departing chief executive Peter Lawwell has been joined inside the Parkhead boardroom by his successor Dominic McKay since last week as the former Scottish Rugby chief gets up to speed.

And it will be a quick turnaround for Howe as well if the deal is rubber-stamped with pivotal Champions League qualifiers in July.
