Eddie Howe post Celtic talks wilderness insight as former Parkhead frontrunner 'wants' Newcastle next step

Former Celtic candidate Eddie Howe is reportedly on taking the Newcastle job - despite a manager currently being in the role.

The former Bournemouth boss' move to Parkhead collapsed in spectacular fashion ahead of the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

The Englishman opted to pass on the hot seat despite months of talks with the Celtic hierarchy.

However, if he was hoping for another offer, his options quickly dwindled.

Despite being touted for jobs at English Premier League clubs like Everton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace all opted to go in a different direction.

It left the 43-year-old on the outside looking in as he continues his search for his first job since quitting at Bournemouth after relegation in August 2020.

Reports down south now report that he would be keen on taking over from an under-pressure manager in the English top flight.

Steve Bruce is under increasing pressure at Newcastle after a winless start to the campaign.

After the draw with Wolves on Saturday, the Geordie faithful filled Molineux with 'Bruce out' chants after their seventh game without a victory.

Newcastle World now claim that Howe would be keen to take on the role, despite Mike Ashley keeping the purse-strings tight at St James' Park.

"He would want the job," claims writer Liam Kennedy. "Eddie Howe has not managed a club of Newcastle United's size in his career.

If he was offered the chance to manage Newcastle United, I think he'd be a mug not to go for it because he'd have a good set of players in a decent position in the division and knows some of them quite well.

"For somebody like Eddie Howe, looking to rebuild, I think that would be a pretty good project because he'd be stepping in at a level that he's never stepped in before."
