Eddie Howe managerial demands questioned as former Celtic frontrunner had Christian Atsu saying 'oh my God'

Former Bournemouth loanee Christian Atsu has admitted life on the training ground under Eddie Howe 's watch was too much for him to handle.

The 29-year-old reflected on his career in English football that included stays with Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle and a stint on the south coast.

And he singled out a loan stint under Howe's tutelage during the 2015/16 season as his most difficult experience.

But his time with the Cherries was an unmitigated disaster as he didn't make a single league appearance before he was recalled by Chelsea during the January transfer window of the same season.

Speaking to The Athletic, he said: "That’s one of the most difficult moments of my career, along with this last season at Newcastle

“Oh my God, it was so tough. The way Bournemouth train, two-hour high-intensity sessions; it was something new and my body needs more rest in training, then to go higher intensity into games.

"My body could not cope. Eddie Howe was a good manager but the training did not suit me. I had to move on.”

Howe remains on the lookout for his next club after talks with Celtic came to a shuddering halt at the end of May and Ange Postecoglou headed to Parkhead.

The 43-year-old was also linked with the likes of Crystal Palace, Everton and Fulham but all outstanding vacancies have now been filled.
