Barry Ferguson has warned Celtic they can't afford to wait to appoint Eddie Howe, as he warned fans are getting "frustrated".
The Parkhead club put out an update on Friday as they acknowledged fan concerns about the managerial situation.
It's been 72 days since Neil Lennon 's resignation and while Howe is the top target there has been no white smoke above Celtic Park.
And Rangers legend Ferguson fears the update won't cut the mustard as he urged the Hoops to get a deal done.
He said on Go Radio: "I don't think they can (afford to wait) - get in, get signed, get announced.

"We know you've got your number one target in terms of your backroom team but if we can't get them is there anybody else who you would target?
"That's what happens in football. You will want a right hand man, you will want a first team coach, sports science, nutritionist - you know the amount of backroom staff managers want.
"Just get him through the door, because I tell you what: Celtic fans are getting frustrated.
"That statement, I read it. Does that tell me that Eddie Howe is done and dusted? It doesn't."
It was then pointed out that Brendan Rodgers didn't arrive until late May, but Ferguson doesn't think that's a valid comparison.
He insisted: "Brendan Rodgers inherited a squad where most of them were staying anyway.
"That's the problem. If it's Eddie Howe, he's going to be coming in and there are a number of players who want to leave, a number of players getting back off their loan.
"It's a massive change."
