Eddie Howe locks down Celtic manager favourite spot after more candidates than wins in 2021

They've had more managerial favourites than wins in 2021 but Eddie Howe appears to be locked in as the top name for the next Celtic boss.

Ever since Neil Lennon announced his resignation the rumour mill has been in overdrive, with fans eager to know who will be in the dugout for next season.

The Parkhead club have kept their cards close to their chests, with largest shareholder Dermot Desmond saying only that he, outgoing CEO Peter Lawwell and his replacement Dominic McKay were working on it.

With radio silence from Celtic the odds have swung wildly, with no fewer than eight men installed as favourite.

Incredibly that number is higher than the number of victories the club has achieved this year, which stands at seven.

But Howe is now the clear favourite with most bookies after Record Sport revealed he'd turned down two Premier League jobs.

Howe leads the market at 4/5 best price, although a handful of other firms make the appointment odds-on at 8/11 and 4/7 respectively.

Caretaker boss John Kennedy has shortened considerably with a number of firms, now into 15/8 second favourite.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson said: “Just last week Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane was backed into odds-on favourite, but that steam has halted.

“Keane was backed into as short as 4/9 following reports he was being considered, but has since drifted all the way out to 16/1.

“At the time of writing, there have been more different favourites (8) for the Celtic job as the side has wins (7) in 2021.”
