Eddie Howe leads congratulations as Newcastle United Women are crowned champions

Eddie Howe sent Newcastle United Women a special message after they were crowned FA Women's National League Division One North champions. Becky Langley's side defeated Barnsley Women 2-0 at Wombwell Recreation Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Goals in either half from Kacie Elson and Katie Barker sealed the win, which saw supporters fans invade the pitch to celebrate the achievement. The Magpies will now ply their trade in the third tier of women's football next term, after edging out Durham Cestria on goal difference

In a special message posted on social media, Howe said: "Hi Becky and all the players. Congratulations on your amazing achievement of winning the league. We're so proud of you, everyone here. Massive congratulations to you all."

Alexander Isak said: "Hello Women's team, Isak here. A big, big congratulations on your promotion.

"It's a massive, massive achievement so congratulations."

Callum Wilson said: "Congratulations girls on an amazing achievement this year winning the league. Unreal what you've all achieved this year.

"Keep it going and we hope you can do it next year and we can get somewhere similar to what you guys have achieved."

Mark Gillespie said: "Congratulations to all the lasses on winning the league. It's a great achievement and we're all buzzing for you so well done."

Jacob Murphy said: "Massive congratulations on winning the league you've done everyone proud."

Joe Willock said: "I just want to say a huge congratulations on winning the league. What a wonderful season and congratulations from me and the team."

Kieran Trippier said: "Hello the Geordie lasses. I just want to say a massive congratulations on the promotion. It's a huge achievement and you should be really proud. Me and the lads are certainly proud of every single one of you.

"Enjoy the celebrations and go again next season."
