Eddie Howe issues Newcastle survival rallying cry and insists it's not an impossible task

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has responded to talk that the club is suffering from a hangover after the takeover party.

United sit bottom with no wins on the board after 13 matches and are in serious trouble.

The bookies have them down as one of the favourites to be relegated.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat, Howe responded to talk of the task being almost impossible.

He said: “I don’t agree with that. We are lacking in confidence, and naturally attract criticism, we'll have to take that and be broad shouldered.

“If we stay committed like we were today we can stay up.”

Newcastle now face Norwich in a six-pointer on Tuesday night at St James’ Park.

Howe said: “We can only do our talking on the pitch and try to fight back.

Of course it's difficult enough in the Premier League when you're fighting for points.

“But with a big deficit it's very difficult.

“Want to get that first win as quickly as possible.

“We have to look at the next game as an important game, we have to give everything in the match to try to win it.”
